About The Practice

Psychiatric Associates of Southwest Florida (PASWFL) is a private solely owned psychiatric medical practice located in Fort Myers, Florida. The practice was founded on the principle of providing the highest caliber of care for patients in an atmosphere of compassion, professionalism, and humanity. While we embrace the most up-to-date science, we never lose sight that we have been entrusted by our patients with their lives and their futures.

PASWFL’s current practice is representative of contemporary medicine. In appreciation of the working public, PASWFL accepts most commercial insurances  including Medicare and Tricare. Patients receive the necessary care provided by multiple types of professionals. All records and accounting are done electronically, and there are no longer any paper files. As a result, all information is readily available and legible.


Position: Psychiatrist

Robert W. Pollack, M.D. CEO is a Florida-licensed Board Certified Psychiatrist. He has been in practice since 1977 and has served the public in many capacities.

He is currently the CEO of Psychiatric Associates of Southwest Florida and resides in Fort Myers. Dr. Pollack’s practice serves people from ages 18 and up. His current special interests focus on the use of Genomics to aid in the determination of the most efficacious way to utilize psychotropic medications as well as the use of rTMS in the treatment of refractory depressions and other psychiatric illnesses.

Dr. Pollack graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and graduated from Down State Medical Center SUNY where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. His psychiatric training was obtained at the University of Florida where he also served as Chief Resident and a member of the faculty.


Position: Practice Administrator

Nicole Ortiz, COO is one of the founders of Psychiatric Associates and currently serves as our Practice Administrator and Chief Operating Officer.

Nicole structured the fiscal architecture and did so in such a way that it kept the practice in full compliance with CMS and all of the other insurers. Before PASWFL she worked in the management and administrative departments for medical and veterinary offices for 8 years and is very well known and respected in the community. Nicole’s expertise and experience in the health care field include Chiropractic, Pain Management and Psychiatry performing and overseeing medical billing/insurance claims manager, credentialing and network contracting as well as front office and patient workflow. Her broad experience and unique skills make her truly the right-hand person to the CEO.  


Position: Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Julie K. Kuhns, LCSW received her Masters of Social Work degree from Syracuse University in 1994.

Ms. Kuhns specializes in working with individuals groups, couples and families affected by depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and dementia-related conditions. Ms. Kuhns spent the first fourteen years of her career specializing in working with children and adults affected by domestic and sexual violence.

Ms. Kuhns is a Qualified Supervisor with the state of Florida to provide Clinical supervision to graduates seeking licensure and also serves as adjunct faculty for the Department of Social Work at Florida Gulf Coast University.
